NGX Group Commends Issuing Houses’ Role in Nigeria’s Capital Market Development

The Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX Group) has commended the Association of Issuing Houses of Nigeria (AIHN) for its contributions to capital mobilisation, banking and insurance recapitalisation, and economic development over the past three decades.

The Group Chairman, Alhaji (Dr.) Umaru Kwairanga, gave the commendation in a goodwill message at the association’s 30th anniversary awards night and dinner held in Lagos on Wednesday, October 7, 2026.

Kwairanga said the association’s 30-year history had coincided with significant capital-raising activities that had supported the Federal Government, subnational governments and corporate organisations in achieving their financing and development objectives.

He noted that members of the association had played leading roles in raising funds for the recapitalisation of banks and insurance companies, as well as providing financing that sustains businesses and supports economic activities.

“I can confidently say that those years have also witnessed the mobilisation of the greatest amount of funds in this nation’s history for the Federal Government, sub-nationals and corporate bodies,” he said.

According to him, the contributions of issuing houses to the economy cannot be underestimated, given their involvement in capital-raising transactions that enable governments to meet governance and development priorities while helping companies sustain their operations.

The NGX Group chairman reaffirmed the exchange group’s commitment to collaborating with the association to deepen Nigeria’s capital market and strengthen its capacity to support economic growth.

He said the NGX Group recognised the important role played by the AIHN in the capital market and its positive impact on the operations and development of the Nigerian Exchange.

“As an organisation, the Nigerian Exchange Group recognises the important role that the Association of Issuing Houses of Nigeria plays in the capital market and its positive impact on our Exchange, and we are always open to partnering with you in the development of the capital market,” Kwairanga stated.

He described the anniversary celebration as an opportunity not only for industry stakeholders to interact and reflect on their shared achievements but also to recognise individuals and organisations that had made outstanding contributions to the association and the broader financial sector.

Kwairanga congratulated the award recipients and urged them to sustain their contributions to the development of the capital market.

“I congratulate all those who are being recognised today and urge them to do even more in the years ahead,” he said.

He reiterated his congratulations to the association on attaining the 30-year milestone and wished participants an enjoyable anniversary celebration.

The AIHN’s 30th anniversary marks three decades of its role in Nigeria’s capital market, particularly in facilitating capital formation and supporting financing activities for public and private sector institutions.
