NYSC Member, Omega Foundation Sensitise Bayelsa Students on Peer Pressure, Lifestyle Addiction
A National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member serving in Bayelsa State, Miss Remigius Chidinma, in partnership with Omega Foundation, has concluded a sensitisation campaign aimed at educating secondary school students on the dangers of peer pressure and lifestyle addiction in Yenagoa communities.
The initiative, tagged “Project Free: Peer Pressure and Lifestyle Addiction Awareness Campaign,” was designed to educate and empower students to resist negative influences, avoid harmful lifestyle addictions and remain focused on their academic and future aspirations.
Speaking after the outreach, Chairman Omega Foundation Mr Romanus Chukwuemeka said the programme was organised to address growing concerns over the influence of peer pressure on teenagers, especially among secondary school students.
He explained that the campaign featured interactive sessions, one-on-one counselling, motivational talks and educational support materials, including the use of whiteboards to enhance understanding and participation among students.
According to him, the outreach recorded significant impact as students actively participated in discussions, asked questions and sought personal counselling on issues affecting their lives and education.
“We had an enlightened session with the students and many of them opened up on challenges they face. Some came for counselling and clarity on certain life issues, while others were motivated to stay committed to their goals and education,” Romanus said.
He stressed the need for continuous awareness programmes targeted at children and teenagers, noting that sustained sensitisation would help curb social vices and lifestyle addictions among youths.
The NGO boss called on individuals, organisations and stakeholders to support initiatives focused on child development and youth sensitisation programmes across communities.
“Impact is not just about one programme. We should continue creating awareness and supporting children so they can make better decisions for their future,” he added.
The foundation boss also commended Chidinma for her dedication and contribution to the success of the outreach programme in Bayelsa State.
“I’d like to thank Miss Remigius Ruth Chidinma, a corps member in Bayelsa, whom we partnered with for the just concluded outreach. She gave commendable efforts throughout the programme,” the organisation stated.
The Project Free campaign was held in six schools across Yenagoa communities, including Citizen of Promise Academy, Azikoro Village; First Baptist Church Model Academy, Ovom; Faith Comprehensive International Secondary School, Okutukutu; Praishal Academy, Etegwe; and Baptist Comprehensive Secondary School, Biogbolo, all in Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa amongst others.
