Lagos Guinness World Record: School Owners, Leaders Strategize Ahead of “Let There Be Teachers” Conference

School leaders, educators, and other education sector stakeholders have met to strategize ahead of the landmark “Let There Be Teachers” Conference, scheduled for 20 September 2025 at Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), Lagos.
The meeting, which brought together members of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), Nigeria Union of Teachers and other stakeholders focused on school growth and sustainability while finalizing plans to mobilize teachers for a Guinness World Record attempt that will see 60,000 teachers gather at TBS for the “Let There Be Teachers” conference.
The unprecedented event is designed to spotlight teachers’ issues and strengthen advocacy for education reform.
“This is a precursor to the event coming up next Saturday,” said Coach Luyi Armstrong, General Secretary of National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools. “We are excited that, for the first time in our country’s history, teachers will gather on such a scale to discuss their challenges and celebrate their contributions. All teachers are encouraged to attend,” he added.
Conference convener and education advocate, Oluwaseyi Anifowose, highlighted the importance of collaboration: “The growth of our schools is directly tied to the growth of our teachers. When we empower schools, we empower educators, and ultimately, we secure the future of education in Nigeria.”
On his part, Dr. Hakeem Subair, co-founder of 1 Million Teachers (1MT), emphasized the role of educators in nation-building. “It is time for society to pay more attention to teachers’ issues. Teachers play a remarkable role in shaping society and building harmony,” he noted.
The strategy meeting featured contributions from prominent education figures including, education entrepreneur Ronke Posh Adeniyi, Rizma Butt (co-founder of 1MT), strategist Rotimi Eyitayo, innovation expert Rhoda Odigboh, and global education consultant Prof. Akin Akinpelu. Their sessions explored innovation, leadership, and strategies for sustainable school growth.
The “Let There Be Teachers” Conference is a major platform for rethinking Nigeria’s education challenges. It will unite school leaders, policymakers, and partners to celebrate teachers, advance solutions to learning poverty, promote technology-driven teaching, and strengthen teacher training. By sharing lessons across states, the gathering aims to shape reforms that empower educators and improve outcomes for millions of children.
