NIA Elects Stephen Alangbo MD/CEO Of Cornerstone Insurance As Council Member

The Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA), the umbrella body of all insurance and reinsurance companies in Nigeria, has elected the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Cornerstone Insurance PLC., Mr. Stephen Alangbo, as a member of the Governing Council.

Mr. Alangbo was elected NIA Governing Council member at the just concluded election which ended on Wednesday, June 25, 2025.

Commenting on his election, Mr. Alangbo expressed happiness and promised to serve to the Council to the best of his ability, just as he thanked those who voted for him during the election.

“I am happy to be elected a member of the Governing Council of this reputable Association. I will serve the Council to the best of my ability. I also thank those who voted for me during the election for the confidence they have in me.

He was formally presented to the members of the body at the Association’s 54th Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on Thursday, June 26, 2025 in Lagos.

Stephen Alangbo is the Managing Director of Cornerstone Insurance Plc. He is a distinguished figure in the insurance sector with over 30 years of experience. His career trajectory reflects a remarkable journey of leadership and expertise. Currently at the helm of Cornerstone Insurance Plc, Stephen began his tenure in 2022 as the Executive Director for Technical Operations, underscoring his commitment to the company’s strategic vision.

Stephen Alangbo has earned recognition as a Life Insurance Specialist and was a nominee for the African Insurance Award in the CEO Category in 2020, highlighting his industry prowess. His extensive experience encompasses various facets of the insurance business, locally and internationally, serving as the Managing Director of ARM Life Plc which was recognized by the London Stock Exchange as one of ‘The Companies to Inspire Africa in 2019’ based on its high standard of Corporate Governance. Stephen excels in risk management, corporate governance, strategic business development, technical operations, regulatory relationships, broker partnerships, and product design. He is a staunch advocate for compliance, ensuring ethical practices and regulatory adherence.

His contributions to the insurance sector extend beyond his professional roles. He has held key leadership positions, including Chairman of the Life Offices Committee (LOC) of the Nigeria Insurers Association (NIA) and Council Member of NIA. Furthermore, he has represented the industry as a facilitator in the African Insurance Organization (AIO), sharing his expertise on Life Assurance in the West African region. His outstanding performance has garnered numerous awards and accolades, cementing his reputation as an industry luminary.

Stephen holds a B.Sc. in Mathematics with Statistics from the University of Lagos and an MBA from the ESUT Business School, Enugu. He is also an Associate Member of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN).
