Impact Positively While Building your Career – CIPSMN President to Newly Inducted Members 

The president Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply Chain Management, Nigeria, Alh. Sikiru Balogun (FCIPSMN) has urge the newly inducted members to never see themselves as an island of knowledge but rather arm themselves with the constitution of Nigeria, procurement Act, as well as the institute Act thereby use their skills and expertise to make a lasting positive impact while building their career.

In his keynote address at the CIPSMN 2025 Graduation/Induction ceremony in Lagos, he stressed that it is their sole responsibility to maintain good ethical practices, stating that “It shall be your duty to maintain ethical responsibility as maintained in our Act. You are entrusted with the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to our society to solve real worlds problem and to inspire change for better. You attaining graduate membership status is just the beginning of your career. The fellow members can tell you a lot about themselves. Remember that it is mandatory for you to be attending Development Training programme of which the first three year consecutively attendance shall upgrade to Chartered membership status.”

The president further said, remember that your education is not stopping here, you are only stepping into the world that is constantly changing where new challenges await you daily. It is now your duty to approach each challenges with curiosity, integrity and a committed excellence.

Balogun further urges, “do not join the bad wagons as our institute shall not spare and will discipline every officer before handling such officer to organisations like EFCC, Code of conduct Bureau or Law enforcement agents, please be warned. However, be a solution, contribute to alleviating the rising cost of goods, services and provision of infrastructure which is the bane of corruption in our country today. Please be a leader who inspires, an innovator who disrupt the status-quo and professional who uphold the highest ethical standards.”

You can go on to bear different names as Procurement Officer, Material manager, Logistic Officer, Warehouse manager, Procurement auditors etc according to different organisations duty you may handle but know that the knowledge you have gained will serve as a foundation but also your continuous learning, adaptability and passion will define your success as a professional, Balogun added.

On his part, Registrar/CEO Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply Chain Management of Nigeria, Prof. Aliyu Mohammed also urge to new graduates/Inductees that with collective efforts towards economic growth and development agenda, good governance and service delivery to citizens in Nigeria should trigger strictly adherence to the professional ethics aimed at all times.

Speaking further on government contribution, Prof. Aliyu lament, for so long the Nigeria government has neglected the procurement and supply chain management rules, regulations, policies, procedures, ethics, professionalism, principles, best practices, due diligence amongst others however, the implication of this act resulted to mismanagement of resources through poor procurement and supply chain management outcomes which paved way for contractors to run away with mobilisation fees.

This impression of neglecting such important area of investment by the government for too long in a democracy setting should take the following consideration that globally there is a growing recognition of how crucial procurement and supply chain management is for economic growth. Also, government should recognise procurement and supply chain management profession as an essential ingredient of democracy dividend delivery and as part of effective budget implementation and good governance, he advised.
