Transforming Learning and Industry Collaboration: UniAbuja Opens State-of-the-Art Conference Center for Department of Tourism & Hospitality

The Academic Conference Center of the Department of Tourism & Hospitality Management at the University of Abuja was commissioned on Friday June 28, 2024 marking a significant addition to the university’s facilities.
The Commissioning was done by the outgoing Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah in the presence of key officials of the institution including, Prof Aisha Maikudi, Acting Vice Chancellor, University of Abuja; Prof Philip Oyadiran, The Dean of Management Scieces; and Dr (Mrs) Elizabeth Babagbale, the Head of Department Tourism and Hospitality Management. Also, in attendance were students and Industry partners including representatives of the Institute of Hospitality, UK Nigeria Region, (IoH); NIHOTOUR and International Hospitality Tourism and Eco-Sustainability Forum (IHTEF).
This new center is expected to enhance the department’s capabilities in teaching, skill development, hosting academic and industry-related events, fostering greater collaboration between students, faculty, and professionals in the tourism and hospitality sector.
The Academic Conference Center of the Department of Tourism & Hospitality Management at the University of Abuja offers several key benefits including Enhanced Learning and Research Opportunities. It will promote collaborative research efforts between the university and industry experts, leading to innovative solutions and advancements in tourism and hospitality management.
This new development is a big boost to the reputation of the institution and particularly the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management. Clearly, this is a new era for hospitality education in Nigeria- a dedicated and well equipped Academic Conference Centre for the Department of Hospitality and Tourism management.
This no doubt underscores the seriousness the institution places on the department and further comfirms the glorious future for the industry.
It offers uncommon skill platform for students to gain practical experience providing them with valuable skills that are directly applicable to their future careers. This will definitely allow for real-world application of classroom knowledge, enhancing the overall educational experience.
From all indication, this brand new Academic Conference Center will be a hub for interdisciplinary collaboration bringing various experts from cultural studies, hospitality, creative arts, sustainable tourism education, to skilled entrepreneurs to address complex issues in tourism and hospitality.
