Obasanjo Visits Remi Tinubu

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has paid a visit to the First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, on the occasion of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

The visit comes days after the former president was seen at an event wearing a cap with embroidery looking like the emblem that is usually on Tinubu’s cap.

The development elicited varied reactions, as some Nigerians wondered if Obasanjo had switched to supporting Tinubu.

In the build-up to the 2023 election, Obasanjo endorsed Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), for the number one seat in the country.

Tinubu visited the former president during the campaign, but Obasanjo did not declare support for the former governor of Lagos’ presidential ambitions.

“None of the contestants is a saint but when one compares their character, antecedent, their understanding, knowledge, discipline, and vitality that they can bring to bear and the great efforts required to stay focused on the job, particularly looking at where the country is today and with the experience on the job that I personally had, Peter Obi as a mentee has an edge,” Obasanjo had said.

The APC candidate trounced Obi and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the polls and was inaugurated as President on May 29, 2023. Obasanjo has been notably absent at many state functions that had past Presidents and Heads of State in attendance.
