LASBCA Ultimatum: Oshodi-Isolo Council Chairman, Oloyede Urges Compliance As Expiration Period Nears 

…Admonishes marketers, property owners to act fast

As the July 30th deadline for the removal of extensions and other illegal structures in the markets around Oshodi-Isolo local government by the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), the Executive Chairman of the local government, Otunba Kehinde Almaroof Oloyede has implored marketers and property owners to comply with the directives, in order to avert the wrath of the law.

It would be recalled that General Manager of LASBCA, Arch. Gbolahan Oki, in a meeting which was facilitated by the council Chairman between the marketers, their leaders and property owners in the market on 27th May, the agency enumerated the directives of the State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, as regards removal of illegal extensions and buildings in the markets.

He told the gathering that he has the directives of the governor to bring down such structures.

The Traders pleaded for clemency and urged the LASBCA GM to allow them finish the Sallah sales which he graciously agreed through the intervention of the council chairman, Otunba Oloyede.

The council chairman through his media office however called on the marketers and property owners in and around the market areas to remove the illegal extensions and structures.

Oloyede noted that by removing the illegal extensions themselves, it will be cost effective and controllable than the agency using their high power machines and tools to effect the removal.

He affirmed that as a government at the grassroots, his administration will support the state government in implementing building laws within the local government and bringing sanity to the markets.

He further stressed that their compliance will propel more customers to visit the market, as it will create more accessible roads into the market and also be helpful in the event of an emergency saying responders will be able to navigate and control it without escalating.

In his words; “I want to remind our people for the upteenth time to comply with the directives issued when LASBCA GM, local government management team and my humble self had a meeting with them in the market. They pleaded for a grace period and I joined in begging the GM to allow them finish the Sallah sales that was fast approaching then. The GM was magnanimous in giving them till July 30th.

The grace period expiration is getting closer but my visit to the markets shows many are yet to comply with the directives of removing their illegal extensions. Very few had complied and I applaud them for being swift.

To those that are yet to comply, the agency can come anytime with their machines and heavy tools to remove the extensions immediately at the expiration period. This will lead to more damage because of the heavy duty machines that will be used, this we want to prevent, reason we are urging the marketers and property owners to act fast.”
